WAF skatepark: Lagos, Nigeria
In spring 2024, we partnered with WAF, Nigeria’s first skateboarding company, and skatepark building NGO Wonders Around the World to construct the first public concrete skatepark in Lagos, Nigeria.
Located in the historic Freedom Park, a former colonial prison turned cultural center, this 600-square-meter skatepark sits adjacent to the WAF skateshop. It provides a unique, shaded, and tranquil space in the heart of bustling Lagos Island, providing a safe place for skateboarders to gather and skate in a city of more than 22 million people.
While open to the public, the skatepark also serves as a hub for community programming, including youth skateboarding classes, girls-only sessions hosted by the Dencity Skate Collective, as well as competitions and events organized by WAF.
